Madera County Jail Roster

The Madera County Jail Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows you to check if a specific person is being held in the county facility of the state of California. On the website MaderaCourt.us, you can find publicly available information about current and recently arrested individuals. Additionally, data is available through the official website of the Madera County Sheriff, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. The roster allows the public to learn about the detention status, charges filed, and booking date. It is maintained by the Madera County Sheriff's Department and is regularly updated on the department's website.

Search Current Inmates in Madera Jail

There are several ways to find out if a person is in custody at the county jail.

Online Search

  1. Visit MaderaCourt.us to search for publicly available court and arrest records.
  2. Go to the official Madera County Sheriff's Office website — the department publishes a list of individuals currently in custody. The roster is usually presented in a scrollable table or searchable through the browser's find function (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F).
  3. To start the search, you will need the person's full legal name or booking number, if known.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster — this information is protected by law.

By Phone

Call the jail directly. The operator can confirm if a specific person is being held if you provide the full name and date of birth.

In Person

You can visit the jail lobby or public information window. Bring identification with you.

Information about the location and contacts of the county sheriff can also be found on the California Attorney General's website. If the case has already been forwarded to court, the criminal division of the Madera County Superior Court will provide information about hearing dates.

Find Madera Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed into the jail. It is the first document in the custody chain. It records specific data.

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of intake
  • Charges filed
  • Arresting agency (city police, sheriff, California Highway Patrol, etc.)
  • Basic identification information of the detainee

To access these records online, use the roster on the sheriff's website or make a request through the City of Madera public records request in accordance with the California Public Records Act (Government Code § 6250 et seq.). This law guarantees California residents the right to access public information held by local and state agencies.

If the person has already been transferred to a state facility, the search can be conducted through the California Incarcerated Records & Information Search (CIRIS) — a tool of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

For local criminal history — such as records maintained by the city police — contact the Madera Police Department's criminal history section.

Search the Madera Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

  1. Enter the last name in the appropriate field or use the browser's search function on the roster page.
  2. If necessary, add the first name to narrow down the results.
  3. Check the spelling — even one incorrect letter can lead to no results.

Some systems allow partial searches: if you are unsure of the spelling, try entering just the first few letters of the last name.

Search by Booking Number

If you have the booking number, enter it directly. This is the most accurate method — it returns a single record without duplicates.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Madera

The roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. There may be a delay of several hours to a day between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the online roster — depending on the facility's workload and data processing speed.

Several limitations should be considered:

  • The roster only displays individuals who are currently in custody. It is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • After release, transfer, or posting bail, the record disappears from the public list.
  • Data entry delays occur, especially on weekends and holidays.
  • Technical issues on the site may temporarily limit access.

If you need records of past arrests or bookings, submit an official public records request to the county sheriff. To view court records, contact the Madera County Superior Court through its online services. A separate state-level criminal history can be requested through the criminal record review procedure of the California Department of Justice — this will require fingerprinting at the nearest Live Scan location.
